Carrying the Burden
This article provides a secondary analysis using a phenomenological research method on how counselors of color responded to clients' microaggresive behaviors. Themes that were identified in this data set included: (a) buffering and bracing for racial microagreesion, (b) experiencing the intrusions of racial microaggressions, and (c) strategizing and responding in session. The authors apply the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies to their findings as a framework for considering practice and training implications.
