Social Anxiety Disorder

Title:
Social Anxiety Disorder: Conceptualization, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Presenter:
Brad Imhoff, PhD
Description:
Social anxiety is more prevalent than ever, particularly among our youth, but individuals go an average of 15 years before ever receiving treatment. This results in a lot of missed opportunities for those who suffer from the social, academic, and work impairment associated with the disorder. In this presentation, participants will become familiar with a cognitive-behavioral understanding of the disorder and the underlying processes that perpetuate impairment. Furthermore, participants will be provided with a variety of cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness interventions used to help manage Social Anxiety Disorder.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learners will be able to explain the underlying factors involved in Social Anxiety Disorder and the cognitive and behavioral processes that maintain it.
  • Learners will be able to differentiate the symptoms and presentation of Social Anxiety Disorder from related mood and anxiety disorders for accurate diagnosis.
  • Learners will acquire techniques and interventions to use when treating social anxiety and be able to implement them effectively with clients.
