Students in all types of schools experience the deaths of family and friends due to school violence, accidents, illnesses, and suicide. School counselors or other mental health professionals may struggle to adequately support grieving students.This session will address trauma-informed strategies for offering support groups for adolescent students experiencing grief, with the goal of understanding the importance of directly addressing grief in the school setting.
Learning Objectives:
1.Participants will leave the presentation with increased understanding of the importance of directly addressing grief in the school setting, the connection between grief and trauma, and strategies available to support grieving students.
2.Participants will leave the presentation with a better understanding and confidence to effectively implement and run a grief group for students.
3.Participants will leave the presentation with creative interventions to use in helping students who are experiencing grief.
